sale@chinakytravel.comWhen the snows of Kilimanjaro meet the ripples of West Lake, when the rhythms of African drums blend with the silken sounds of Jiangnan's string and woodwind — this summer, Hangzhou Kangyi International Travel Service welcomed a group of distinguished guests from afar, with meticulous preparation and attentive service. A meeting spanning the Indian Ocean had begun.

Receiving African guests involves more complex preparations than one might imagine. Africa is a vast continent with numerous countries and immense cultural diversity. From confirming nationalities to adjusting menus, every step required forethought.

Africa has 54 countries, each with distinct cultural customs. Our team communicated repeatedly with our clients in advance to clarify the guests' specific nationalities — addressing African friends by their country names is the most respectful approach, rather than using the generic term "African." Our tour guides committed this detail to memory before departure.

African guests tend to have high expectations for vehicle cleanliness and air conditioning. Our team coordinated with our in-house fleet in advance to ensure that seat covers on every bus had been laundered and that air conditioning was in good working order. Drivers were instructed to depart on time, drive smoothly, and refrain from eating inside the vehicle. Special note — handshakes should be firm; in Africa, a limp handshake is considered insincere.

Our team confirmed with each hotel in advance: whether kettles were provided, whether there was a quiet space suitable for prayer, and whether breakfast options accommodated different dietary preferences. Luggage delivery efficiency was also discussed beforehand.
African guests' dietary practices vary greatly depending on their religious beliefs. Muslim guests do not eat pork, while some Christians observe fasting customs. Our team communicated repeatedly with each restaurant in advance to ensure menus avoided prohibited ingredients, and provided serving chopsticks and spoons at every table to ensure hygiene.

The guides selected by Hangzhou Kangyi prepared thoroughly in advance: Africans have a strong sense of national identity, so addressing them by their country name is greatly appreciated; handshakes should be firm to convey sincerity; never take photos without permission, as many Africans believe that pointing a camera at something can absorb its "vital essence." Guides also prepared ice-breaking conversation topics about African films, music, and sports, ensuring that every interaction began with respect.
During preliminary communications, our team proactively introduced African guests to China's mobile payment systems and Wi-Fi rental services. Today, China's mobile payment and translation apps make travel more convenient, helping them adapt quickly upon arrival.

Our African guests showed strong interest in China's modern achievements and Jiangnan's cultural heritage. Beyond classic landmarks such as West Lake cruises, Lingyin Temple, and Shanghai's Bund, Hangzhou Kangyi specially arranged more "everyday life" experiences — taking guests to visit local food markets, watching citizens do morning exercises in public parks, and experiencing the most authentic local flavor. These real-life scenes often touch visitors more deeply than tourist attractions.
Shopping was also an important part of the itinerary. Our African friends enjoyed selecting local specialties as souvenirs — silk, tea, handicrafts — and sufficient time was arranged for them to browse and choose.

A truly great journey is not an accumulation of sights, but a seed planted in the traveler's heart. The year 2026 marks the "China-Africa Year of People-to-People and Cultural Exchanges," with tourism between China and Africa warming steadily and African visitors showing growing interest in China. Our guides at Hangzhou Kangyi, through sincere communication and thoughtful commentary, showed our guests from afar a real, multifaceted, and modern China.
The tracks of suitcases measure thousands of miles of distance, yet cannot contain the depth of memory. This Jiangnan rendezvous may well become a story that some African friend tells again and again back home — inspiring more of their compatriots to come and see China for themselves.
